Zapotec Heritage

Identity

We are a Zapotec weaving family from Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca — a community with deep roots in textile tradition.

Our knowledge has been passed down through generations, not only as a craft, but as a way of understanding the world through color, symbols, and material.

Teotitlán del Valle is one of the oldest Zapotec communities in Oaxaca.

Known in Náhuatl as “place of the gods” and in Zapotec as Xaagui, meaning “at the foot of the mountain,” it is a place where culture, history, and daily life remain deeply connected.

Weaving, ceremonies, and community traditions continue to shape everyday life.

In our community, weaving is not a staged activity — it is part of daily life.

Techniques, symbols, and natural dye processes have been preserved and adapted through generations.

By visiting us, you are not observing a demonstration — you are entering a living tradition.

This is not a demonstration. This is our way of life.
